First Kisses - writercize #176 #AtoZChallenge

Ready for a little romance? How about comedy? Or perhaps a brush with that gangly, awkward teenage feeling? Why not write a scene about a first kiss?

First kisses hold so much expectation, and there are so many variables at play with timing and chemistry and ambiance that there can't be many more emotionally charged and challenging scenes to play with.

The first boy who kissed me did so at a movie theater. In the back row "so the crowds isn't annoyed if I laugh too loud." I liked him enough; he was outspoken and took conversational risks which piqued my quieter self's curiosity. But as kisses go, I so wasn't into the timing of it all. It was like, blech, all these people around and I'm really trying to watch the movie! Try again, silly boy!

Tap into that side of you that loves the romance, comedy or angst of first kisses and write it out.

If you completely cringe at the idea of writing of romance, feel free to share a story of a different type of first kiss, such as that from a parent to child, child to parent, new car owner to vehicle ... whatever strikes you.

writercize: Create a fictional (or non-fictional) scene about a first kiss.

Think about all those things that happen like distractions and nose bumps and inaccurate assumptions, and suck everything you can out of them for inspiration!

Leave your story as a comment, and be sure to leave your blog's URL so I can visit you too!

****Note: Two of my readers e-mailed me to let me know they are having difficulty leaving a comment (THANK YOU!) so, if you have trouble and feel inclined to comment, you can leave a remark on the blog's Facebook page and I will visit you back. I'll try to figure out what else is going on with blogger.

writercizer sample response:

Nine months of anticipation and love swell into a single moment. Waiting for baby's first cry, Mama touches her lips together and reaches out with open arms. Seconds stretch out like hours while she waits for baby's wail, showcasing two tiny healthy lungs. As the cries come, nurses jot numbers on paper as doctor passes baby back to Mama. Nuzzling into baby, Mama kisses little ears and supple cheeks and knows that hours will shrink back to seconds cuddling with her newest love. It is the first kiss of a lifetime.

  2. It had been a long, cold day when I stepped off of the Bus at 30th Street station in Philadelphia. Being on the west side of the city, miles away from home on the north side, the dark night and shady air didn't scare me. After learning what it felt like to be temporarily homeless, potentially stranded and lost in the city that never sleeps, I never felt so grateful to be back in a town that I usually despise...so grateful that I felt like kissing the ground that I crossed on JFK Boulevard. Man, this must be what soldiers feel like.

  3. It was pitch black, not even the light of the moon or the light from a digital clock could be seen. Having no use for the sense of sight, the other five became more sensitive. The air in that tiny room smelled of him mixed in with Tide laundry detergent, with hints of dust and stale beer. The November rain introduced a slightly wet, musty smell too. As our faces drew closer together, I could feel his sweet breath near my face getting warmer and warmer. What followed was what I had been waiting for a very long time. The moment I had dreamed about since I first met him three years ago was just one delicious breath away. His lips were perfect, not dry not wet. The kiss started as a timid brush of the lips, followed by a more purposeful but still tender kiss. I lost track of time. Something in me knew this was going to be very special. Not a sound could be heard, just two hearts beating to the rhythm of love.

  7. Excellent writing prompt. I plan to journal more about it later. But, for now, I'll give you the location of my first kiss from a boy. I was 11; he was 14. We were at a family summer camp together, in the sauna. It was hot.

    Wonderful blog!

  8. Ahahahaha, I'm laughing at Mary's. The sauna, the heat. What a first kiss! Loved yours too. I think I'll write mine down later. (Hubby's here) Ha!

Hmmm. Mine was by the beach. (I'm from the Keys.) The waves were rushing that day. The sun was high and the salt water smell strong. We'd been swimming all day. I cannot wait to write this down. Oh yeah!

There should be a blogfest for first kiss. I'd do that. Fun. Following you back. It's lovely to meet you. I'm happy you enjoyed my fable. Love your blog. *waving*
