Welcome to the fifth edition of the #WeekendWritercize competition!
Join in and spread the word to friends and family!
(...and if you haven't had a chance to read entries from the last four weeks, check them out on the #WeekendWritercize tab - talent abounds)
writercize: This week is debate week. Pick a side for the following question and write a compelling argument. The question is:
Who rules the world - men or women?
(Hint: Think like a lawyer, even if you don't believe in the side you choose, provide the evidence to make the jury believe! Also, think of this as your closing argument, meaning ... you do not need to directly rebuttle any of the other entries.)
To enter the competition, leave your entry as a comment below. Be sure to include your Twitter handle and link to your blog or website. Tweet and Facebook fellow entries using the hashtag #WeekendWritercize.
Since this blog is used by teachers and students, I kindly request that you abstain from profanity and gratuitous violence. (In other words, keep it PG-13.) If your story can't be told without, just provide a link to your post on your own website along with a disclaimer.
Competition closes at 11:59 p.m. Sunday night (Pacific time) - no entries accepted after that. Winner announced Monday.
Thanks and good luck!
Honorable Judge Walker and members of the jury, I'll say it again. Men rule the world.
ReplyDeleteGod made man in his image. The Bible, which is the oldest law book in the world, states right in Genesis 1:26 that man was created in God's image to rule over the earth. Woman were merely created to be a companion to man and to bear children.
God gave man the task of naming all the animals and ruling over them. God gave man the task of planting crops and caring for the land.
Men are the ones in authority over the world and over women. The Bible says in 1 Timothy 2:12 that women should not teach or have authority over men. Ephesians 22-24 says the husband is the head of the wife and that wives should submit to to their husbands.
So, Judge and jury, the evidence is clear. Men rule the world. This is upheld by the Bible and I urge you to rule in favor of men.
I rest my case.
With respect to my learned colleague, I must disagree. Her evidence that man rules the Earth is outdated and antiquated. The Bible was written thousands of years ago by man. It stands to reason that man would try to cloud the truth by ‘quoting’ God. But since the Bible was brought into this debate, allow me to use it to disprove her theory that man rules the Earth and submit instead that it is woman who enjoys the title of Supreme Ruler of the Earth.
ReplyDeleteFrom the very beginning, man has fallen subject to woman’s dominance. Was Adam strong enough to stand against Eve when she brought him the fruit and enticed him to eat? Why in fact, when God came and asked Adam about it, Adam lay the blame squarely one Eve’s shoulders. That she turned around and tried to blame the serpent, serves as further proof that Eve, a woman, ruled the Earth. She was able to speak to animals. Only the ruler of the earth could do that.
Woman’s reign did not end with Eve. Throughout history, every great man has been backed by an even greater woman. As most true rulers, women choose to operate in the background, making men feel as though they were the ones to accomplish what woman has designed. This makes it easier to manipulate the weaker sex, since men have huge egos. This compensates for their smaller brains. I submit to you every First Lady in the history of the United States. They stand in the background and allow their husbands to do the speaking. Yet everyone knows that behind closed doors, it is the First Lady that holds the power. From Eleanor Roosevelt, to Laura Bush, Hilary Clinton and now Michelle Obama, the true ruler of the free world is a woman.
Woman’s rule is so engrained in society that there are many subliminal indicators. Boats, cars, even luck, both good and bad, are referred to as women. Men go to work, toiling hard for little pay and then bring it home and hand it to their wives. All across the world, men cower at the thought of angering a woman. The term, hell hath no fury as a woman scorned, comes from man’s attempt to thwart woman’s dominance on the earth. And man has paid dearly for the attempt, often having to buy flowers, candy, jewelry and furs, to win favor again.
Even when the end of the Earth comes, woman will be the ruler. It is said in Revelation 17: 5 and on her forehead was written a name of mystery: Babylon the great, mother of prostitutes and of earth’s abominations. And then in verse 18: And the woman that you saw is the great city that has dominion over the kings of the earth. Dominion Over The Kings Of The Earth. Only the true ruler of the earth could hold dominion over a king and that ruler, as stated in the final book of the Bible, the very same Bible that my colleague quoted as proof that man rules the earth, is a woman.
I rest my case. Thank you.

ReplyDeleteHonorable Judge Walker, esteemed members of the jury, men and women alike, I propose that neither rules the world.
ReplyDeleteThe key word is "rule". Neither man nor woman can rule in any sense of the word. Either is able to influence, make decisions, provide incentives, or take direct action. Appearances can be that one or the other 'rules', but that is simply an illusion. This illusion is dependent upon circumstances.
A man is physically able to dominate. A woman is able to operate on all levels of intelligence and reason. With individual strengths, the 'ruler' will fluctuate.
I present this: God created both man and woman. He did not make the relationship a contest. He did provide each to the comfort and well-being to the other. Therefore, God ordained that man and woman walk side by side, as partners, each performing to the strengths God gave each.
Who then 'rules'?
God.
