Best and Worst of 2011 - writercize #147

It's the time of year for, well, truly for New Year's Resolutions, but I'm a little bit behind as usual (darn procrastinating) so we'll fall back a week and work on lists of the best and worst of 2011.

The challenge, beyond that insurmountable task of completing a superlative, is to come up with your own categories.  Use the news, or your personal life, or a list of pop culture, or whatever comes to you as inspiration, but pick at least three things for each of your lists.

writercize:  Create (at least) three "Best Of 2011" and three "Worst of 2011" categories and fill in your perspective to summarize the year just passed.

Good luck!  Please share as a comment, and I'll see what I can come up with you offer my personal perspective for each of your best and worst lists too!

writercizer sample response:

Best Vanity Fair Article of 2011"The Book of Jobs" by Joseph Stiglitz.  Ok, it's in the January 2012 issue, but it was written and received in 2011, which makes it count.  This should be required reading for anyone interested in entering politics.

Best New Blog of 2011:  Why, writercize of course!  Just kidding.  Sort of.  Seriously, though - happy to have launched the blog this year and connected with some fabulous people and writers.  Find some other blogs I really like by looking at the list of guest writers to your right.

Best News for American Military Families in 2011:  Your husbands, sons, fathers, brother, mothers, sisters, wives and daughters got to come home from Iraq in time for the holidays.

Best Technology of 2011:  iPad2 all the way.  It's a life changer folks.

Best Catchy Song of 2011:  I am loving "Moves Like Jagger" by Maroon 5 right now.  There's just something about Adam Levine's swagger that goes straight to my heart.

Worst Halloween Costume of 2011:  Amanda Knox as a cat burglar - just released from jail on a shaky "not guilty" decision, playing a rule breaker - not funny

Worst Government of 2011:  Major toss-up as governments crumble worldwide thanks to Arab Spring (Libya, Egypt, Tunisia), complete ineptitude (Italy, Greece) and death (North Korea).  Then there's the one that really should crumble thanks to a lack of communication and irritating ability to ignore record low approval ratings - the United States' legislative branch.  Let's call it an embarrassing draw.

Worst News for American Military Families in 2011:  The economy back home is still in the tank.  Good luck job hunting.

Worst Use of Technology in 2011:  Anyone who insists on talking on their cell phones in public restrooms, and long conversations in otherwise quiet public areas.  Worst of the year?  A woman made the national news for talking on her cell phone for 16 straight hours on the train from California to Oregon.  She was selected as Anderson Cooper's most annoying person of the day, and I'd have to agree.

Biggest movie disappointment of 2011 - Transformers 3 (that was in 2011 wasn't it? - too lazy to google it)

  2. Thanks Brianna!

Completely agree on the blogfest/challenge - really looking forward to 2012. I am excited to see what you come up with!

Haven't check out American Horror Story yet - I'll have to give it a whirl. I think Transformers 3 was 2011 --- I heard something on the radio about all the sequels that came out last year, and I'm pretty sure that was on the list.

Re. NaNoWriMo, I didn't even attempt it. Did you get anything that you like out of the attempt that you might work on seriously, or was it all a wash. It sounds like too much for me to tackle right now, but I may try in a couple of years.
